Frequently Asked siding replacement Questions

Contract Exteriors is a James Hardie Guild Quality Customer Service Award winner and certified by the Vinyl Siding Institute. We pride ourselves on providing top-notch customer service for all our clients. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the services we provide.

Is siding replacement a good investment?

Siding is a significant investment for your home. First, it increases the curb appeal of your property. Second, it protects your home from weather damage, repairs structural damage, and lowers your energy bills.

As an investment, you can expect to recoup at least 80% of an investment made in new vinyl siding. This means that an investment of $5,000 adds $4,000 to the value of your home.

A siding replacement also protects your home from harsh weather such as winter storms, severe thunderstorms, and hurricanes. You also can save on your energy bill by choosing to add insulation to your home before putting up new siding.

Above all, removing your old siding allows our home remodeling contractors to identify structural damage in need of repair. This can include leaks, dry rot, and many other factors.

Vinyl siding is a great investment for your home. At Contract Exteriors, we use only the best products when installing new siding.

Should I choose vinyl or James Hardie Fiber cement board?

There are benefits to both vinyl and fiber cement board siding. Both are durable and attractive options, though fiber cement board siding can be stained or painted. This allows you to change the color of your home easily. Read our full comparison here.

Do you do siding repair?

We do not currently do siding repair. With all the improved new siding materials available, siding replacement is often a better investment for our clients.

How do I know if my siding needs to be replaced?

Your siding needs replaced if it falls under any of these criteria:

  • Cracked, loose, or split siding
  • Siding that’s fading or peeling
  • Rotting, warping or waviness, or soft siding
  • Any significant storm damage or holes
  • Growth from mold, fungus, mildew, or algae
  • Bubbles, water stains, or water swell
  • Increase in heating and cooling bills

How long will my new siding last?

Today’s siding is extremely durable. With proper maintenance, James Hardie fiber cement board can last up to 50 years, and vinyl siding can last 60 years or more.
