What’s the Average Timeline for a Remodeling Project?

August 23, 2019

One of the most frequently asked questions we receive when working with clients is “How long will this project take?” We understand why. Exterior remodeling and construction projects can be loud and disruptive, and they’re typically not something you want to put up with for any longer than needed. Fortunately, Contract Exteriors is dedicated to providing quick and efficient exterior remodeling services so that you can get back to enjoying your home.

It all starts with the initial consultation. This is when we discuss your goals, your wants, your needs, your budget, architectural elements you like, and more. It’s at this stage in the process where we start to get an idea of how long a particular project will take to complete. Once the consultation is finished and our team has an opportunity to review the information, we’ll schedule a meeting to discuss the proposal. This is when we’ll go over the details concerning costs, products, and the timeline of your project. Of course, things can change, but this will give you a close-estimate to help you and your family plan accordingly. It typically takes about one week from the initial consultation to have a meeting about the proposal.

Once the plan has been agreed upon and the proposal is signed, our team will get started. How long a project will take to complete depends on a number of factors, but we’ll break them down by service so you can get a better idea of what to expect when choosing Contract Exteriors for your remodeling project.

House roof

How long will it take to replace my roof?

Your home’s roof is an integral part of its structure. It not only protects you and your family from the outside elements, but it also can help increase your property value, and save you money on your monthly energy bill. In short, your roof’s health is incredibly important. When your roof needs to be replaced, whether due to age or damage, many people find themselves asking how long it will take.

There are a number of different factors that can affect how long it takes to replace a roof. The roof’s overall size, the pitch of the roof, and the types of materials being used can all affect how long the roof replacement project will take. On average, however, we find that most roof replacement jobs can be completed in 1-3 days.

Professional Siding Contractors

How long does a siding installation take?

Just like the roof, your home’s siding protects it from the outside elements. Properly installed siding, especially new vinyl siding or fiber cement, can increase your home’s value and lower your monthly energy usage by keeping your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Damaged or poorly installed siding, on the other hand, can lead to numerous costly issues. We often find that people aren’t exactly sure when they should replace their siding, but they know that they’ll need to eventually.

How long it takes to replace a home’s siding can is dependent on whether the home is one story or two, the overall square footage, the landscaping, and the grading directly around the house. In addition, what material you chose can also affect how long it takes. Typically speaking, if you opt for James Hardie Fiber Cement siding, it will take an average of 10-12 days from start to finish. Vinyl siding can be installed a bit quicker, with most jobs only needing about 4-6 days at most to complete.

Treated Decks

How long does it take to build a deck?

There aren’t many things that beat sitting out on a deck, with a cold one in hand, enjoying the company of friends and family. The deck is an extension of a home, so it comes as no surprise that it’s one of the first things many people get done (if they don’t have one already, of course). Fortunately, building a deck doesn’t take all that long.

For an average-sized deck between 300-400 square feet, homeowners can expect their project to be completed in about one week. Unlike roofing and siding, the materials used don’t really make a difference in the timeline. Whether you go with treated wood or opt for composite, you can expect the project to have the same timeline.

What about Windows, Doors, and Hurricane Fabric?

While large projects like roof replacements, siding installations, and building decks can take up to a week or more, smaller projects can typically be completed in a single day, meaning you hardly have to plan around our team. Of course, this can vary depending on a number of factors. For example, if you’re replacing every single window in a coastal mansion, it may take a bit longer. But for the average project, one of our crews can get it finished in one day. Doors and Hurricane Fabric can take even less time than replacing windows.

The Contract Exteriors Process

Our project timelines serve as tools you can use to help plan accordingly around your project and our crews. Project lengths can vary from one day to four weeks, once a contract has been signed and depending on the size and scope of the job. We make our estimations based on years of experience, but even we can’t always predict exactly how long something will take. Fortunately, though, each client is assigned a support team from the start that’s dedicated to ensuring your happiness throughout your remodeling project. From start to finish, they will be with you every step of the way.
